Once the kneecap stops gliding, your knee should extend towards the ground with your heel raising off the ground. No other muscles should be contracting to “help” the quad. Hold the contraction for 5 seconds, then release. Repeat for a set of 10 to 15 repetitions, gradually increasing as your strength improves.
  • Gradual Progression: Begin with gentle quad sets, gradually progressing to more challenging variations, such as isometric contractions against resistance bands or weight machines. Consult with your physical therapist or healthcare professional to determine the appropriate progression for your specific condition.
  • Consistency is Key: Incorporate quad sets into your daily rehabilitation routine. Perform them multiple times a day, aiming for consistent execution of the correct contraction pattern. Over time, regular practice will yield significant improvements in strength and function.
